Over-18s gig by the Cornwall trio William The Conqueror, blending groove-driven alt-rock with folk and Americana, at The Voodoo Rooms.
William The Conqueror play The Voodoo Rooms on Monday 10 May 2027, with the set starting at 7:30 pm in The Ballroom. They're a trio from Cornwall, and this is a headline show with them as the sole bill for the night.
If you haven't come across them, they're a shape-shifting outfit rooted in groove-driven alt-rock, with a sound they describe as equal parts fuzz and finesse. There's a strong storytelling thread running through it, drawn from folk and Americana, and they've built a reputation as one of the UK's most vital underground bands. They've toured alongside Bright Eyes, Nathaniel Ratliffe and Wilco, and have worked with producers Ethan Johns, who's done records for Kings of Leon and Laura Marling, and Joseph Lorge, known for his work with Phoebe Bridgers and Perfume Genius.
They're several albums in now, and they describe themselves as a band that continues to evolve, shaped by the road and sustained by a belief in the redemptive power of a great song, well played. That's a good way to frame what they do: the folk and Americana provide the songs, and the fuzz and groove provide the delivery.
