Two-hour white wine tasting tour of the world's main white wine styles, run by Edinburgh Wine School.
White Wines of the World comes to the Novotel Edinburgh Centre on Thursday 28 January 2027, a two-hour tasting that takes the world's most important white wine styles in one go. It's run by Edinburgh Wine School, part of the Local Wine School Network, and it's set up as a whistle-stop tour of the globe rather than a slow stroll.
The tasting starts with the crisp, aromatic Sauvignon Blancs of New Zealand and works its way across to the smooth, buttery, oaky Chardonnays of Australia. Between those two poles, you'll work through the styles that define the white wine world, so you get a sense of how the same grape can taste completely different depending on where it's grown and how it's made.
It doesn't stop at the wine in the glass, though. The session covers the use of oak and the difference between cork and screwcap, and it spends some time busting common wine myths—the kind of things that usually get repeated as fact but don't actually hold up. If you've ever wondered why some whites taste like vanilla and others like green apple, or why the closure matters, that's where you'll find the answer.

It's a two-hour introduction, so it's designed to get you around the map without getting bogged down in the weeds. The session starts at 7:00pm at the Novotel Edinburgh Centre, 80 Lauriston Place, EH3 9DE, and it's available as a gift voucher if you're thinking of it for someone else. Tickets are £40.
