Horizon's annual Halloween costume party with horror-themed decor, DJ Shaun and BIING, with mandatory costume entry.
THE MANSION returns to Shanghai Club Edinburgh on Thursday 29 October for its Halloween special, the sixth edition of Horizon's annual ritual in the city. It's been running for six years now, and the organisers say it still sells out before the doors even open, so if you're planning on it, you'll want to get your name in early.
The whole venue is transformed for the night. Every room is dressed and every corner lit with immersive horror-themed decor, and this year the theme is a cinematic horror take on the Super Mario world — the familiar characters and settings reimagined as something sinister rather than a cartoon. It's a full transformation, not just a few props scattered around, so the space you know as Shanghai Club will be completely different by the time you walk in.
On the music, DJ Shaun and BIING are taking the night, playing a mix of hip-hop, chart hits and high-energy TikTok tracks. The organisers frame it as a night for people to come in costume and dance, rather than a student night, and they make one thing very clear: costume entry is mandatory. You'll need to be dressed up to get through the door, so that's the one thing you can't leave to the last minute.
