Drop-in conversation group from the Leith Conversation Cafes for newcomers and locals to meet, share stories and improve their English.
Leith Conversation Cafes are hosting a drop-in conversation group at the Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel on Monday 19 October, starting at 17:30. The session is built around a single, open-ended question: What would you like to experience or achieve before you die?
It's a conversation group in the truest sense. The Leith Conversation Cafes run two of these every week, and they're designed to bring together people who've moved to Edinburgh from overseas and locals, so you'll likely find yourself chatting with people from very different backgrounds. The whole point is to meet new people, work on your language skills, share stories and ideas, and pick up a few new perspectives along the way. It's as much about building friendships and feeling more at home in Leith and Edinburgh as it is about the talking itself.
The conversation is gently structured, which is the useful bit: it's set up so that everyone gets a chance to speak and be heard, regardless of how shy or confident you're feeling or how many English words you've got in your pocket. You don't need to be a fluent speaker to join in, and you don't need to have a polished answer ready for the question before you walk through the door. The prompt is just a starting point for the room to work from.
