Candlelight concert of Vivaldi's The Four Seasons by The Piccadilly Sinfonietta inside St Giles' Cathedral on the Royal Mile.
The Piccadilly Sinfonietta are playing Vivaldi's The Four Seasons by candlelight at St Giles' Cathedral on Saturday 31 October, starting at 8pm. It's a candlelight concert in the heart of the Old Town, with the cathedral's interior lit by candles rather than the usual house lights.
The Four Seasons is one of the most recognisable pieces of classical music there is, a set of four concertos that follow the year from the melodies of Spring through to the chill of Winter. The Sinfonietta will play the full cycle, and the evening includes other works alongside it. It's pitched as a romantic experience in a gorgeous setting, and they've framed it as something that works for first-time classical concert-goers and seasoned enthusiasts alike.
The venue is St Giles' Cathedral on the High Street, right on the Royal Mile in the Old Town. The current building was begun in the 14th century and extended until the 16th, so it's a proper piece of Edinburgh's medieval core. The whole thing is brought to the city by CityMusic Promotions Ltd, and they've made a point of noting that it isn't affiliated with the Fever Original Candlelight series.
