The original, critically acclaimed production of Tristan & Yseult by the Emma Rice Company, returning to the UK for the first time in ten years.
Tristan & Yseult opens at The Royal Lyceum on Tuesday 20 October, running through to Saturday 24 October. It's an Emma Rice Company production, adapted and directed by Emma Rice, with a book by Carl Grose and Anna Maria Murphy and music by Stu Barker. The show is a co-production between the company, York Theatre Royal and Nottingham Playhouse, with original set and costume design by Bill Mitchell.
If the title sounds familiar, it's because this is the original Kneehigh production. It first went on in 2003, played open air at Restormel Castle in Cornwall and Rufford Abbey in Nottinghamshire, then moved to the Minack Theatre in 2004 and the Cottesloe at the National Theatre in 2005. It hasn't been on stage since 2017, so this is its first UK return in ten years.
It's been called one of the most influential theatre productions of the 21st century, and that's because it doesn't stick to one lane. It blends myth, music, movement and storytelling into a style critics have described as visceral, playful and heartbreakingly beautiful. It's suitable for adults and brave children aged eight and over.
