A vibrant, multisensory spectacle that reclaims the witches' voices through music and dance, reimagining Shakespeare's Macbeth.
Thrice comes to Traverse Theatre on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October, part of a six-date Scottish tour from Al Seed Productions. It's a ritual, choral performance and a poetic response to Shakespeare's Macbeth, led by a chorus of nine women in three trios who remain in the aftermath of the play's bloodshed and ask what it might mean to live on in the shadow of ruin.
The piece unfolds as a visual and sonic journey of movement, dance, text and original music. Macbeth's words are absorbed and transformed by the witches who haunt the play's edges, challenging the legacy of persecution attached to the word 'witch'. It's as much about the voices left behind as it is about the play itself, and it runs for about 90 minutes.
Scottish theatre-maker Al Seed, one of the UK's most distinctive voices in visual and physical theatre, directed the piece alongside long-time collaborator Judith Milligan. The choreography comes from Lina Limosani, an original member of Australian Dance Theatre. The show is supported by Creative Scotland and Tramway, and is a partner of PiPa (Parents and Carers in Performing Arts).
