Reece Shearsmith guides audiences through his bizarre collection of macabre artefacts in a live storytelling show.
Reece Shearsmith brings Things I Took from the Dark to the Assembly Rooms on Monday 26 October, a live storytelling show that sits right in his wheelhouse of the macabre. The whole thing is framed as a tour of his private collection of bizarre artefacts, and it's Shearsmith himself who guides you through them.
The setup is simple on the surface: the show is set behind a normal door in an ordinary house, but what lies on the other side is a museum that's anything but. From there, Shearsmith takes the lead, weaving together the stories behind the objects he's gathered. If you're familiar with his work, you'll recognise the territory—the strange, the slightly unsettling, and the dark humour that usually runs through his writing. It's a night of storytelling rather than a play, with the focus on the objects and the tales he tells about them.

There are a few practical things to keep in mind. The show is recommended for ages 14 and over, at the discretion of a parent or guardian, so it's one to think about if you're bringing anyone younger. The evening starts early: the box office opens at 18:00, doors open at 19:00, and the show itself runs from 19:30 to 21:20, with a 20-minute interval in the middle. Tickets start from ÂŁ34.45, including all fees, and the performance is currently sold out.
