Indie rock trio The Wave Pictures headline The Mash House on Guthrie Street, playing their new album 'Gained / Lost'.
The Wave Pictures are playing The Mash House on Thursday 22 October, as part of their current tour. It's just the three of them on the bill: Dave Tattersall on guitar and vocals, Franic Rozycki on bass, and Jonny Helm on drums.
They've been around for more than twenty years, starting out as teenagers in Wymeswold, Leicestershire, and they've put out more than twenty albums since. The early years were all DIY — they recorded and self-released a string of records before settling in London. Their sound draws on 1960s garage rock, 1970s classic rock, and 1990s American indie, and they've been compared to Jonathan Richman and Pavement. Tattersall's guitar work is a big part of that, and the songwriting has a witty streak to it.
Among those twenty-plus albums are Sophie (2006), released on Smoking Gun Records, and Instant Coffee Baby (2008), their first for Moshi Moshi. Their latest is Gained / Lost (2026), out on Bella Union. They've played festival stages like Primavera Sound, Green Man, and End of the Road, and have collaborated with Daniel Johnston, Jeffrey Lewis, and Darren Hayman.
