Free whisky tasting session of Glen Moray, a Speyside single malt, presented by The Water of Life Society.
The Water of Life Society are hosting a Glen Moray tasting at the West Reading Room, Teviot Row House on Thursday 29 October, from 19:00 to 22:00. It's a dedicated session on the Speyside single malt, so the whole evening is built around that one distillery.
If you're not familiar with the name, Glen Moray is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery on the banks of the River Lossie in Elgin. It first opened as the West Brewery in 1828 and was converted into a distillery in September 1897, so it's been distilling for over 120 years. The house style is known for being light, smooth, approachable and fruit-led, which gives you a good sense of what to expect from the tasting: a softer, more accessible side of Speyside rather than anything heavy or overly smoky.
The night is run by The Water of Life Society, and the focus is entirely on Glen Moray, so you'll be working through their range rather than a mix of different distilleries. It's a three-hour window, which leaves plenty of time to take your time with the drams and talk through them without having to rush. If you're just getting into whisky, that's a welcome pace; if you've been around it for a while, it's a chance to sit with a single distillery and see how their style holds up across the board.
