Pre-Hogmanay concert of traditional Scottish music by the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra, with guest performers and a pipe band, suitable for families.
The Scottish Fiddle Orchestra are back at Usher Hall on Wednesday 30 December, their annual pre-Hogmanay celebration of traditional Scottish music. It's a long-running fixture of the city's December calendar, and this year they're joined on stage by guest performers and a Pipe Band.
The set runs through the full range of the tradition. There are toe-tapping reels, lively jigs and strathspeys to get you moving, balanced by majestic marches, soul-stirring slow airs and Scottish songs. It's a broad sweep of the country's fiddle music, and the addition of the Pipe Band brings the pipes and drums into the mix alongside the strings.
The orchestra describes itself as Scotland's top fiddle orchestra, and they've spent more than 40 years at the heart of the country's musical heritage. That's a fair bit of ground covered, and they've taken it well beyond the borders, with international tours across North America, Australia, New Zealand and China. This particular concert is their pre-Hogmanay celebration, a festive evening they pitch as being for all ages and for anyone ready to welcome the New Year in true Scottish style.
