A live orchestra of musicians and vocalists reimagines the golden era of R&B, from 1990s ballads to club classics.
The R&B Orchestra play The Liquid Room on Saturday 3 April 2027, from 7pm to 10pm. It's a three-hour set that takes the golden era of R&B and rearranges its smoothest anthems for a live orchestra, drawing on the heartfelt ballads of the 1990s and the club classics of the 2000s and beyond.
On stage is an ensemble of musicians and vocalists rather than a single band, so the sound comes from a full section of strings and brass working alongside singers. The setlist pulls from two distinct eras: the slow-burn ballads that defined the nineties and the dancefloor fillers that took over in the two thousands. Both are reimagined as orchestral arrangements, so the songs you know from the radio are played with a live ensemble behind them.
They describe the show as a love letter to R&B, and that's a fair summary of what it does. It's less about a particular album or a new release and more about the genre itself, with the 90s ballads and 00s club hits sitting side by side. The whole thing is performed by that same ensemble of musicians and vocalists, so the orchestral sound runs through the entire night.
