18+ talk by clinical sexologist Lindsay Dukes on the psychology and biology of fetish and kink, with a Q&A, part of the Seed Talks collection.
The Psychology of Fetish & Kink comes to Assembly Roxy on Wednesday 11 November, part of the Seed Talks collection by Seed. It's a talk that opens with a recent UK study finding that about half of adults report having a fetish or kink, and from there it sets out to demystify those practices by looking at their psychological and biological underpinnings alongside the role of power dynamics.
Leading the session is Lindsay Dukes, a Clinical Sexologist, Sex & Relationship Therapist and Psychosexual Therapist specialising in Gender, Sex and Relationship Diversity. She's worked within kinky, open and polyamorous communities internationally as a writer, performer and educator since 2015, and she teaches at the Contemporary Institute of Clinical Sexology, where her work centres on consent, communication and pleasure. The talk offers practical steps for communicating desires for pleasure and closes with an open, non-judgmental Q&A; past audiences have described it as inclusive, intelligent and well-presented.
It's a good one if you've ever wondered about the 'why' behind these things, but it's also a practical session—the part on communicating desires is something that applies well beyond the kinky side of things. The room is 18+.
