Live concert by The Polis, a three-piece Police tribute act, at La Belle Angele in Edinburgh.
The Polis play La Belle Angele on Friday 6 November, a tribute to The Police that's been running since 2005. They stick to the original three-man line-up, so you've got the same stripped-back setup as the band they're covering. The set goes through the classic singles, the B-sides, and the live arrangements that became a big part of The Police's reputation. They describe it as raw and nostalgic rather than over-polished, which fits the way those songs were played back when they were new.
The material they draw on comes from The Police's original run from 1978 to 1984, a period that turned out fifteen Top 40 singles and five albums. That's the bulk of what you'll hear, though the set also touches on the band's 2007 reunion, which saw them play 150 dates without putting out any new material. So the night is built around the songs and the live side of things, rather than a specific album or era.
