The Jesus & Mary Chain and The Psychedelic Furs co-headline a double bill at the Usher Hall.
The Jesus & Mary Chain and The Psychedelic Furs are playing together at Usher Hall on Wednesday 20 January 2027, a double bill that puts two of the era's big names on the same stage. It's a co-headline tour, so both get their own slot rather than one opening for the other.
The Jesus & Mary Chain are the Scottish duo of brothers Jim and William Reid, who formed the band in 1983 and built their sound on a noisy, feedback-heavy yet melodic approach that changed the face of alternative punk. Their 1985 debut Psychocandy, which included 'Just Like Honey', remains a cornerstone of the era, and the Reid brothers have cited the Velvet Underground, the Stooges, Phil Spector and Brian Wilson as their chief influences. After splitting in 1998 they reunited in 2007, and more recently released Glasgow Eyes in 2024, recorded at Mogwai's Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow. Jim Reid has said their creative approach remains the same as it was in 1984: hit the studio and see what happens.
The Psychedelic Furs formed in 1977 around singer Richard Butler and his brother Tim on bass, and their 1981 album Talk Talk Talk brought them their biggest following, including the single 'Pretty in Pink'. They regrouped in 2001 after a nineties hiatus and released Made Of Rain in 2020.

It's a long way back to the early eighties for both, and the setlists should reflect that. The Jesus & Mary Chain's Glasgow Eyes came out in 2024, and The Psychedelic Furs' Made Of Rain in 2020, so there's recent material to run alongside the older records. The show starts at 19:00 at Usher Hall on Lothian Road, and tickets are £51.30.
