The Comedy Lock-In

The Comedy Lock-In is back at The Beehive Inn on Friday 4 December, one of the many dates in a run that's been going since late October. It's hosted by Rick Molland, who's been programming comedy rooms across Edinburgh for more than twenty years and is widely regarded as one of the UK's top comperes, specialising in the art of the roast. The press once quoted him as making Richard Dawkins look like the Archbishop of Canterbury, so if you're not in the mood for a bit of sharp-tongued banter, you've been warned.

As for the acts, the bill changes every week, with a rotating line-up of stand-up comics. That's the whole point of the night: you get a different set of names each time, so it's not the same show twice. The vibe is casual and fun, and since the line-up shifts, it's a good one to return to if you've been before.

The room itself is The Comedy Attic, Edinburgh's original pub comedy club, tucked away on the top floor of The Beehive Inn — one of the city's oldest pubs, over in the Grassmarket. It seats about 65 people, so it's a proper small-room feel rather than a big stage, which usually means the comedy lands a bit closer to home. It's a good spot for a night out that doesn't feel like a formal theatre trip.

Doors open at 8pm and the show starts at 8:15pm, running for about two hours. Tickets are £12.50 online and £15 on the door, so it's worth booking ahead if you want to save a few pounds. The Comedy Attic runs every Friday and Saturday night, with dates listed from Friday 23 October through to Friday 18 December, and then Friday 1 and Saturday 2 January 2027, so if 4 December doesn't work, there are plenty of other chances to catch it.
