UK tour night led by Robin Smith with Tubular Bells performed in full, extended sections of Tubular Bells II and III and Oldfield classics.
Mike Oldfield is coming to Usher Hall on Thursday 4 March 2027, as part of a UK tour that follows sell-out runs through 2025 and 2026. The night centres on Tubular Bells, the record that made him a household name and which has since become a minimalist masterpiece sitting somewhere between progressive rock and ambient music.
The programme works its way through the three Tubular Bells albums released over 27 years. The original, recorded in 1971 and released in 1973, is performed in full. Tubular Bells II (1992) and Tubular Bells III (1998) are represented by extended sections. Along with those, there are Oldfield classics like 'Moonlight Shadow', 'Family Man' and 'Summit Day'.
There's a fair bit of history tied to these records. The original gained a huge following partly through its use in The Exorcist, and the series later reached the London 2012 Olympic Games, where 'Far Above the Clouds' from Tubular Bells III featured in the Opening Ceremony. Tubular Bells II had its premiere filmed at Edinburgh Castle, which remains one of the most viewed musical events ever.
