Historical music show recreating the sounds of a 17th-century tavern with overtures, sea shanties and folk songs, devised by Bjarte Eike.
The Alehouse Sessions come to the Assembly Rooms on Monday 30 November, presented by Through the Noise. The show is devised by Bjarte Eike and performed by Barokksolistene, a group that calls themselves the 'Alehouse Boys'.
On stage, they recreate the sounds and the atmosphere of a 17th-century tavern. The set is built around the music of that period, with overtures, English sea shanties and Scandinavian folk songs. It's an ever-changing look at the era's music, and the Alehouse Boys combine the format with humour, virtuosity and a flair for improvisation.
The venue is the Assembly Rooms at 54 George Street in the New Town. Built in 1787 and funded by public subscription, they were originally a meeting place for social gatherings and are now a multi-arts space that features prominently at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Hogmanay. The show is for ages 14 and over.
