A one-off drop-in improv class led by Paul Connolly of TBC Improv, where all levels learn the basics of improvisation through games and exercises.
TBC Improv are running a drop-in improv class at Summerhall on Saturday 7 November, from 10:00 to 12:00. It's a one-off session open to all experience levels, so you don't need to have done anything like this before to turn up. The whole thing is built around games and exercises, with the aim of building confidence and collaboration over the two hours.
In that time, you'll get stuck into the basics of improv: creating spontaneous moments, working with other people, and telling stories on the fly. You'll cover 'Yes and...', giving and receiving offers, communication, and creative thinking — the kind of things that make a scene work when you're making it up as you go. It's a drop-in, so you just show up and get involved.
The session is led by Paul Connolly, an Edinburgh-based award-winning actor, comedian, improviser, teacher, writer, and director. He's best known for TBC Improv and the Scottish Comedy Award-winning Spontaneous Players, which includes Spontaneous Sherlock and Spontaneous Potter. Since 2010 he's taught and trained extensively in acting, improv, musical improv, and sketch, studying at Edinburgh College and at UCB, Magnet Theater, and Terry Knickerbocker Studio in New York, iO and Second City in Chicago, and Drama Inc. in Atlanta. TBC Improv is a global brand with locations in the UK, Spain, and Hong Kong.
