A longform improv comedy showcase of up-and-coming Scottish improv talent at Summerhall.
TBC Improv UK bring their Fresh Faces of Improv showcase to Summerhall on Friday 16 April, a longform night that puts the newest talent in Scotland's improv scene centre stage. If you've spent any time around the city's comedy, you'll know the difference between the short-form stuff — the quick-fire games and one-off sketches — and longform, where a single suggestion from the crowd is stretched into a full-length piece. That's the latter on offer here, with the night running for around two hours.
Fresh Faces is exactly what it sounds like: a platform for the newest voices in the scene. These are performers who've spent their time honing their craft and building up ensemble chemistry, and this is where they bring it out in public. TBC Improv UK describes the evening as fast, funny and fearless, with bold choices, unexpected twists and the joyful chaos that only comes from live improv. Because it's longform, you're watching a whole show build itself in front of you rather than a series of disconnected games, so the ensemble work is a big part of it.
