Spiritualized play The Queen's Hall with J Spaceman, a string quartet, gospel singers and guitarist Tony Foster for their Acoustic Mainlines tour.
Spiritualized play The Queen's Hall on Friday 9 April 2027, one of four rare Acoustic Mainlines shows they're putting on to mark their 20th anniversary. The Edinburgh date is presented by PCL Presents.
On stage, J Spaceman is accompanied by a string quartet, gospel singers and guitarist Tony Foster. The set draws from the Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized catalogues alongside various cover versions, so you'll hear things from across the band's history rather than a single album.
The Acoustic Mainlines shows grew out of the making of Songs In A&E, an album that came together after J Spaceman survived a serious illness. The format itself started with an appearance at a Daniel Johnston show at the Barbican, where Spaceman and Spiritualized guitarist Tony Doggen Foster covered Johnston's 'Devil Town', 'Funeral Home' and 'True Love Will Find You In The End' — a performance Spaceman later recalled as a gentle way of getting back on stage. From there, the shows expanded to pull from the Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized songbooks, with the gospel singers and strings filling out the sound.
