Live gig by indie rock quartet Skylights, blending Britpop and post-punk, at Sneaky Petes in Edinburgh.
Skylights play Sneaky Petes on Thursday 5 November, their only Edinburgh date that autumn. They're an indie rock quartet from the North, and the set will be built around their debut, What You Are.
If you're wondering where they sit, they describe their sound as Britpop and post-punk influences coming together, and they name Oasis, Courteeners and The Verve as the records they've drawn from. It's a lineage that places them firmly in the guitar-led tradition: the melodic hooks of the mid-nineties Britpop era meeting the sharper, more angular edges of post-punk. That combination is what's been driving the buzz around them since What You Are came out, and it's the sound they'll be bringing to the stage.
As a four-piece, they've built their name on that particular blend of the two styles, and the debut record is the foundation they're touring. It's the release that's put them on the map, so it'll be the main thing they're playing from throughout the night. If you've followed them since the start, you'll recognise the songs; if you're coming to them for the first time, it's the best place to get a handle on what they do.
