Workshop in which young people host conversations about human rights in Scotland through audio recording, visual art and poetry.
Seen and Heard is a workshop running at The Bakery (The Baking Room) on Friday 11 December, from 10 am to 4 pm. It's put on by Multi-Cultural Family Base as part of their AWARE programme, and the whole thing is hosted by young people who lead conversations about human rights in Scotland.
Rather than a standard talk, it works through creative formats: audio recording, visual art-making and poetry writing. The focus is on the experiences of ethnically diverse young people, and the session sits under the overarching theme of 'Freedom, Dignity and Justice'.
There's a bit of history behind it, too. The project grew out of MCFB's participation in the Leith Town of Culture 2028 bid, which widened the organisation's focus to cover broader human rights alongside the right to participate in cultural life. The participants themselves have pushed the conversation further, asking to open up topics like climate change, LBTQ+ issues, feminism and disability — all of which fall under that same 'Freedom, Dignity and Justice' umbrella.
