The Scottish Chamber Orchestra, led by violinist Lorenza Borrani, plays Beethoven symphonies in its 2026/27 New Dimensions series.
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra are back at The Queen's Hall on Friday 14 January 2027, with violinist Lorenza Borrani leading them through Beethoven's symphonies. It's a big night for the SCO, and one of the more substantial entries in their current season.
Borrani is the main draw here, and she'll be directing the orchestra from the violin rather than from a conductor's podium. That's a distinct way of working—the orchestra takes its cues from her playing as much as her gestures, and it tends to change the whole feel of a performance, making it feel a bit more like a chamber group than a full orchestra. The programme focuses on Beethoven's symphonies, so you'll be hearing some of the most famous music in the classical repertoire played in that more direct, ensemble-led style.
The concert is part of the SCO's New Dimensions series for 2026/27, which is the broader programme they're working through this season. If you've followed them over the last year, this is one of the larger-scale dates they've got lined up.

As for the venue, The Queen's Hall is at 85-89 Clerk Street in Edinburgh South, EH8 9JG. It's a 900-capacity hall that opened back in 1823 as Hope Park Chapel before being converted into a music venue in 1979, when it was formally opened by Queen Elizabeth II on 7 July. It hosts a wide range of styles—classical and jazz, blues, pop, rock, world, folk and comedy—and it's a regular spot for the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and the Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival during the summer months. This Beethoven night sits on the classical end of that mix, on Friday 14 January 2027.
