Good Egg Comedy's new material night with up to five Scottish acts, plus visiting acts, in a cocktail bar.
Cracking New Jokes! is back at Dragonfly on Thursday 22 October, the latest night in Good Egg Comedy's long-running new material series. It's a straightforward setup: a resident compere—Ross, Ralph or Cobin—introduces up to five acts from the Scottish comedy scene, along with special visiting acts. Some of them have appeared on television, others are testing material for national tours, and the whole night is built around new jokes rather than polished sets.
That's the point of a new material night—you're seeing the work in progress, the bits that haven't quite settled yet, and the ones that land first time. The organisers bill it as Scotland's top new material comedy show, and they describe what to expect as sharp observations, quick repartee and clever wordplay. It's a good place to catch comedians working through their latest ideas before they make it into a full tour.
Dragonfly is a cocktail bar at 52 West Port, and the room holds around 42 comedy fans, so it's a small, close-up setting. The bar opens well ahead of the show, which is useful if you're meeting people or want a drink before the first act takes the stage. The night has run in a cocktail bar for years, and the organiser notes that entry has stayed at a fiver since 2024.
