The Scottish Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Raphaël Pichon in his debut with the orchestra, celebrates the music of Franz Schubert.
The Scottish Chamber Orchestra are at Usher Hall on Thursday 11 February, with a programme built around the music of Franz Schubert. It's a celebration of the composer, and it's also a debut: conductor Raphaël Pichon is stepping in to lead the orchestra for the first time.
Schubert's work is the focus of the whole evening, and the SCO is spending the concert working through it. Pichon is the one bringing the ensemble together, and he's described as bringing his own distinctive vision to the composer's enduring legacy. It's a good way to frame the night — a familiar body of work seen through a new set of eyes.
For the orchestra, it's a double milestone: a dedicated Schubert programme and a new conductor on the podium. The two go hand in hand here, with Pichon's debut and the celebration of Schubert making up the core of the evening. If you've followed the SCO for a while, this is one of those nights where a new name takes the lead on a composer the orchestra knows well.
