Samhain-themed foraging walk through Corstorphine Hill woodland to identify edible and 'spooky' plants and fungi, followed by a wild food and drink tasting.
Edinburgh Forage & Eat are running a Samhain foraging walk at Corstorphine Hill Walled Garden on Sunday 1 November, from 2pm to 5pm. It's a three-hour session that takes you up onto Corstorphine Hill, one of the city's nature reserves, which is easy enough to get to on public transport.
The timing is the point: around Halloween, the woodland paths are full of edible and 'spooky' plants and fungi, and the walk identifies about thirty of them. The guide talks you through how to forage legally, ethically and safely, and how to actually process what you find, so you're not just looking at things and nodding along. The afternoon then rounds off with a tasting of wild food and drink samples, so you get to try some of the things you've spent the day spotting.

It's a good one for a Sunday afternoon, especially if you're into the wilder side of the city. The walk starts and ends at the Walled Garden, 109-111 Clermiston Road, EH12 6UR. Tickets are £40 for adults and £15 for children, with under-fives free, and you can get a refund up to seven days before the event if your plans change.
