Ruts DC play La Belle Angele for a tour marking 50 years of The Ruts' music, for over-18s only.
Ruts DC play La Belle Angele on Thursday 15 April, as part of their Ruts DC Present The Ruts: 50 Years of Ruts Music 1977-2027 tour. It's an AGMP Concerts presentation, and the night is for over-18s only.
The set draws from five decades of output. You'll hear from the early records like The Crack and Grin & Bear It, alongside later albums Animal Now, Rhythm Collision, Music Must Destroy and Counterculture?. The singles they're pulling from run the length of those years: 'In A Rut', 'Babylon's Burning', 'Something That I Said', 'Jah War', 'Staring At The Rude Boys' and 'West One (Shine On Me)'.
To get where they are, it helps to know how they started. The Ruts came out of London in 1977, mixing the raw urgency of punk with reggae, dub and rock, driven by Malcolm Owen, Paul Fox, Dave Ruffy and Segs Jennings. After losing Owen in 1980, the remaining members chose integrity over nostalgia and reinvented themselves as Ruts DC. They later lost Paul Fox in 2007, but the band remains a living, evolving entity rather than a tribute to its own past. This tour marks fifty years of that music, from the 1977 beginnings through to 2027.
