Professional gathering for rural and island water and wastewater practitioners, researchers and policy-makers with workshops, panels and MSPs.
Rural Water & Wastewater Gathering comes to Custom Lane in Leith on Wednesday 18 November, from 10am to 5pm. It's a day for anyone working with water and wastewater in rural and island communities — off-mains practitioners, researchers, and policy-makers — to get together and map out where these systems go from here.
The day fills a gallery of art and projects from across Scotland, with interactive panels and workshops running alongside. There's also face-time with MSPs and other decision-makers, so it's as much about talking to the people who make the rules as it is about sharing what's happening on the ground. It's aimed at anyone directly involved with private water supplies, septic tanks, or rural sewage pollution issues, or those advocating on behalf of their community.
Rural Water Agenda is organising it, with Scottish Rural Action and Newcastle University on board and funding from UK Research and Innovation. If you're travelling from further away and don't have employer support, there's a limited number of travel and accommodation bursaries available. Children and pets are welcome too, as long as they stay with a responsible adult at all times.
