The RSNO plays John Powell's score live to the film 'How to Train Your Dragon 2' in HD, with conductor Ellie Slorach.
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra bring How to Train Your Dragon 2 to Usher Hall on Friday 26 February 2027, the Scottish premiere of the film performed as a live-to-picture concert. The movie runs in HD on the big screen while the RSNO plays John Powell's score live in the room, so you're hearing the music as it happens rather than from a recording. It's a Golden Globe Award-winning animated sequel, and critics and audiences alike have called it a worthy successor to the original.
Conducting the orchestra is Ellie Slorach, the RSNO's Engagement Conductor. She's also the founder and leader of Kantos Chamber Choir, a vocal ensemble she established in 2015, so there's a choral side to her work that runs alongside her orchestral conducting. The whole thing is a family-friendly evening, and since it's the Scottish premiere of this particular performance, it's the first time the film has been presented this way in Scotland.
If you can't make the Edinburgh date, the RSNO is taking the show to Glasgow Royal Concert Hall the next day, Saturday 27 February, at the same price. It's a good option if you're closer to the west or if Friday doesn't work for you.
