The RSNO screens 'The Snowman' on the big screen, played by the orchestra and narrated by Hugh Dennis, with festive carols and sing-alongs.
The Royal Scottish National Orchestra bring The Snowman to the Usher Hall on Sunday 20 December, as part of a Scottish tour that takes them to Aberdeen, Dundee and Glasgow. The film runs on the big screen with the RSNO playing the score live, and Hugh Dennis on narration. It's a matinee, starting at 2.30pm, and it leaves room for sing-along carols and festive melodies like 'Consider the Penguin' and 'The Twelve Days of Christmas'.
Karen Ní Bhroin conducts, and she's one of Ireland's foremost young conductors — a 2024 Taki Alsop Fellowship recipient mentored by Marin Alsop, and music director for Irish National Opera's Breathwork in 2023. Hugh Dennis is best known from BBC2's Mock the Week and the sitcoms Outnumbered and Not Going Out. They're joined by a full house of voices: the RSNO Youth Chorus, RSNO Changed Voices, RSNO Training Choir, RSNO Chorus and RSNO Chorus Academy. The RSNO Chorus evolved from a choir formed in 1843 to sing the first full performance of Handel's Messiah in Scotland, and the RSNO Youth Chorus was founded in 1978 by Jean Kidd.
