Boston band Ripe plays a mix of funk, alternative, dance and rock at The Voodoo Rooms, over-18s only.
Ripe are playing The Voodoo Rooms on Friday 19 February, their tour stopping in Edinburgh for one night. They're a Boston band, and the set will pull from their latest album, Play The Game, which they recorded in dream studios with a producer who'd made albums they loved back when they were first starting out. The record sits alongside the others they name as the ones that shaped them: Joy In The Wild Unknown and Bright Blues.
They describe their sound as a mix of funk, alternative, dance and rock, and the line-up is Calvin Barthel, Robbie Wulfsohn, Sampson Hellerman and Jon Becker. The band's story starts in a basement beneath a Subway sandwich shop, where they spent their early days sweating through first songs and selling tickets by hand outside a coffee shop run by friends — a friendship they say has become as strong as family.
