A tribute show marking what would have been Gerry Rafferty's eightieth birthday, bringing his songbook from 'Stuck in the Middle with You' to 'Baker Street' to the stage.
Right Down The Line: The Gerry Rafferty Songbook comes to The Queen's Hall on Friday 16 April 2027, a tribute show marking what would have been the eightieth birthday of the Paisley-born singer-songwriter Gerry Rafferty. It works its way through his enduring songbook, from 'Stuck in The Middle With You' to 'Baker Street' and beyond.
There's a particular reason the show is framed as a conceptual piece. Rafferty had a long-standing reluctance to perform live, which meant much of his music never left the recording studio. The troupe behind this production set out to bring those songs to the stage for the first time, and they describe the result as a melodic odyssey commemorating Scotland's first 'son of song'. They bill themselves as Europe's No.1 Gerry Rafferty tribute show, and the whole thing was created with the encouragement and creative support of the Rafferty family.
The set is performed by what the organisers call the most accomplished exponents of Rafferty's music in the world today. Because the show is built around that idea of taking studio recordings and figuring out how they work in a live room, it's a good way to hear the songs if you've only ever known them from the records. The reach of the set is broad, too, covering the early years and the later hits that made him a household name.
