Monthly queer ceilidh night with traditional ceilidh tunes and gender-neutral calling by The Reel Hoosewives Ceilidh Band.
The Reel Hoosewives are back at Leith Arches on Wednesday 4 November, the first Wednesday of the month. It's their queer ceilidh, which they run every month at the same spot, and this one runs from 8 pm to 11:30 pm, with doors opening at 7:30 pm.
On the night, the band works through a selection of traditional ceilidh favourites. You'll hear the Gay Gordons, the Canadian Barn Dance, the Dashing White Sergeant and the Orcadian Strip the Willow — the kind of dances that usually form the backbone of any ceilidh. Throughout the whole thing, they use 100% gender-neutral calling, so you don't have to worry about who's leading or following.
They describe the atmosphere as intentionally warm and welcoming to everyone, whether you're a seasoned ceilidh pro or a complete newcomer to the dance floor. It's an over-18s night, and it's billed as Edinburgh's premier queer ceilidh. If you've never done a ceilidh before, it's a good place to start: the calling is clear, the dances are classics, and the whole thing is built around getting people moving together.
