Relaxed Sunday afternoon session led by artist Jules Bradbury to try drawing into printmaking with monotype, suitable for all levels.
Jules Bradbury leads a monotype workshop at Summerhall on Sunday 15 November, from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm. It's part of the venue's Creative Learning programme, and the whole thing is pitched as a relaxed Sunday afternoon for anyone wanting to try drawing into printmaking. It's open to all levels, so you don't need to be an artist to get involved, though it's for over-18s.
The session takes the raw, emotive prints and drawings of Tracey Emin as a starting point, and from there it moves into the immediacy of monotype without a press. You'll start with mark-making exercises to build up a personal vocabulary, and then use that to create work that's unique to you. All the materials are provided, so you just need to bring an apron or an old shirt and a folder to take your prints home in.
Jules Bradbury is a Scottish visual artist and an experienced educator who has taught at Heriot-Watt University. His practice centres on drawing and low-tech printmaking, and his body of work The Skin, which deals with haptic drawing, will be on exhibition at Summerhall from 23 January to 21 March 2027. This workshop is a chance to work with him in the studio well before that show opens.
