Day of lectures and poster presentations on population health sciences, including a guest lecture by Professor George Davey Smith, hosted by the Usher Institute.
Population Health Sciences: past, present and future runs at the Usher Building on Tuesday 3 November, from 10:30 to 16:15. It's hosted by the Usher Institute, which sits within the University of Edinburgh's School of Population Health Sciences. The day is part of Usher Connects, the Institute's series for anyone looking to improve health and social care, and it forms part of the Edinburgh Medical School 300 celebrations.
The morning session, Population Health Sciences – past, present and future, runs from 10:30 to 13:00. That's followed by lunch and poster presentations from 13:00 to 14:30. The afternoon brings a guest lecture by Professor George Davey Smith of the University of Bristol, who speaks on Causality in (so-called) non-communicable diseases from 14:30 to 15:45, with refreshments and networking to close the day. Both core sessions are primarily in person, though online streaming is available for those who can't make it in.
There's a bit of history behind the hosting. The Usher Institute was founded in 1898 alongside the world's first Chair of Public Health, and it's since grown into a data-driven innovation hub under the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal. Its home building now houses partners across the Edinburgh BioQuarter. Professor Davey Smith's lecture draws on his decades of experience in population health research.
