Free, pre-booked, curator-led talks on the last Wednesday of each month exploring science and the humanity of medicine through the Physicians' Gallery collection.
Physicians' Gallery Spotlight Talks run from 30 September to 25 November 2026 at the Physicians' Gallery, inside the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh at 11 Queen Street. They're curator-led sessions, and each one focuses on a different area of science and the humanity of medicine, drawing on the gallery's own collection. The talks happen on the last Wednesday of the month, so you've got a few to choose from across the autumn.
Because the gallery is run by the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the talks are built around the objects they hold. Rather than a general tour, each session zooms in on a specific theme, with a curator leading the way through the collection. It's the kind of thing that works better if you go more than once, as each talk covers a different subject rather than repeating the same ground.
The gallery itself is on Queen Street in the city centre, so it's an easy enough trip from most parts of town. The talks run on the last Wednesday of the month from late September through to late November, which gives you a bit of a window to fit one or two into your calendar without having to commit to the whole series. If you're into the history of medicine or just like seeing the things that usually stay tucked away in a collection, it's a good place to start.

Entry is free, but you do need to pre-book your spot, so it's worth sorting that in advance rather than turning up on the day. The sessions run on the last Wednesday of the month from 30 September to 25 November at the Physicians' Gallery, 11 Queen Street, Edinburgh EH2 1JQ.
