Four-week patchwork and quilting course at OOTB Abbeymount Studios where you make a cushion cover, placement or tote bag.
OOTB Abbeymount Studios is running a four-week course in patchwork and quilting starting Wednesday 4 November 2026. It's held at the studios on 2 Easter Road, at the top of Easter Road in Edinburgh East, and runs for four weeks from that start date.
Over the course of the month, you'll work on an individual piece of your own. The beauty of it is that you get to decide what it becomes: it can be finished as a cushion cover, a placemat, or a tote bag, so you'll walk away with something you can actually use. It's a good way to get a handle on the basics of patchwork and quilting without having to commit to a massive project right out of the gate.
The course is run by Studio Nine, one of the regular programmes at the studios. If you haven't come across them before, OOTB Abbeymount Studios is the creative space of the Out of the Blue Arts & Education Trust, housed in an old Victorian school building. It's a multi-disciplinary facility that promotes engagement and innovation in craft and design, with art and craft studios, weekly classes for beginners and advanced makers, and 24-hour workshop access for resident artists. It's a working makers' space, so the whole place is built around people actually making things.
