Weekly Wednesday evening of free entry where local creatives work on their own arts and craft projects in the cafe.
Open Craft Night returns to August 21 Coffee House on Wednesday 28 October, and it's not just a one-off — it runs every Wednesday from 6pm to 8pm through to 21 December. The coffee house is at 89 Causewayside in Newington, so it's a mid-week evening in the south of the city.
The setup is straightforward: it's a space for local creatives to bring their own projects into the cafe and work on them alongside other people. You bring whatever you're currently making, find a spot, and get on with it. There's food and drink available while you work, and the whole point is that you can chat with the people around you as you go. It's as much about the company as the crafting.
They're open to any kind of arts and crafts, digital or practical, and it doesn't matter where you're at with it. The organisers list crocheting, drawing, knitting, embroidery and sewing as examples, but that's just to give you a sense of the range — it's not limited to those. Whether you're a seasoned maker or just starting out, you're welcome. They describe it as a space for crafty-minded people to meet fellow makers and build connections with local artists, and they've noted that the night is making a comeback.
