The Choir of King's College Cambridge, directed by Daniel Hyde, brings a festive programme of carols and seasonal favourites to the Usher Hall.
The Choir of King's College, Cambridge are back at Usher Hall on Monday 14 December, their festive concert On Christmas Night: The Glory of Choir of King's College Cambridge returning to Edinburgh for the season.
Director Daniel Hyde leads the programme, which draws on the choir's 500-year repertoire. It's a mix of well-known carols and seasonal favourites, and it's not just for listening — the concert encourages the audience to join in with popular songs the crowd can sing along to. If you've heard their recordings, this is one of those nights where you actually get to be part of the sound rather than just hearing it from the other side of the room.
The choir's repertoire goes back half a millennium, so the set reaches well beyond the usual Christmas hits. You'll get the carols you know by heart alongside the older, more formal pieces they've been singing for centuries, and the singalong parts bring the whole thing back to something a bit more communal. It's a good way to spend a Monday evening in mid-December when the city is already leaning into the festive mood.
