Ash Lab Art Studio is running an oil painting workshop at Silvan House Studios on Saturday mornings this autumn, with sessions on 31 October, 7, 14, 21 and 28 November. It's a guided course in the fundamentals of traditional oil painting, and the studio describes it as a welcoming, supportive environment.
Over the five mornings, you'll work through the basics: colour theory and mixing, brush techniques, composition, and how to handle light and shadow. From there, the focus shifts to landscape and still-life painting, with the aim of helping you develop your own style rather than just copying a teacher. The classes are kept small, so you get personalised guidance and feedback on your work as you go.
It's pitched at beginners or anyone who hasn't picked up a brush in years. Everything is introduced step by step, and there's no pressure to be 'good at art' to join in. All the materials are provided, so you don't need to turn up with your own kit.
