Offspring: Koldron

Koldron is a new scratch event launching at Summerhall on Saturday 14 November, as part of the Offspring festival. It's a brand-new addition to the Offspring model: a scratch night conceived as a bubbling melting pot in which to cook up something new and to connect theatre makers in Edinburgh, offering routes to production. The hour is filled with fresh, locally made concoctions that lean into the other and the uncanny, with creatives selected through a 'Kol out' call-out on Offspring's social media. The full line-up is revealed at the end of October.

It belongs to Offspring, an annual festival curated by Icelandic playwright, director and dramaturg Kolbrún Björt Sigfúsdóttir, aka Kol, who launched the first edition in Spring 2026. This autumn edition, Offspring - Their Dark Materials, runs over two days in November and pairs three new plays with a scratch event and networking sessions, including Kolect, a free speed-dating game for migrant theatre makers. Kol's play This Is a Gift premiered at Pitlochry Festival Theatre and the Icelandic National Theatre after being longlisted for the Women's Prize for playwriting.

Koldron is pronounced 'cauldron', and the name fits the format: a mix of new work from Edinburgh makers, with the full line-up coming out in late October. It's one part of a wider festival that runs across two days in November, alongside three new plays and the Kolect networking session for migrant theatre makers. The whole thing is curated by Kol, the Icelandic playwright and director who started Offspring in the spring of 2026.

Koldron runs from 6:30 pm to 7:40 pm in TechCube 0 at Summerhall, 1 Summerhall, Edinburgh EH9 1PL. Tickets are £11.25, which includes a £1.25 booking fee. There's also an Offspring ticket offer: buy any two Offspring shows for £15, or four for £20, plus booking fees.
