Nouvelle Vague return to The Queen's Hall to celebrate their seventh album, 'A Date with Depeche Mode', with thirteen Depeche Mode songs reimagined as bossa nova.
Nouvelle Vague return to The Queen's Hall on Saturday 20 March 2027, their first Edinburgh date since their last visit. They're touring their seventh album, A Date with Depeche Mode, and the whole night is built around it.
If you're not familiar with how they work, the project was started in 2003 by Marc Collin and the late Olivier Libaux. The name is a double play on 'new wave' and the Portuguese 'bossa nova', and that's pretty much the whole idea: they take songs they love by bands like Joy Division and The Cure and hand them to young singers who've never heard the originals. The result is a mix of bossa nova, jazz and sixties pop. It's a bit of a strange way to make a record, but it's how they've built their following over the years.
A Date with Depeche Mode does something they've never done before. For the first time, they've dedicated an entire album to a single band: thirteen Depeche Mode songs recreated and reinterpreted by new voices, all recorded in Rio with Brazilian musicians. The first single is a duet of 'Enjoy the Silence' performed by Skye Edwards of Morcheeba and Larry Love of Alabama 3. The show is titled A Date with Depeche Mode, and that's what they'll be presenting on the night.
