Northern Ballet presents a family-friendly ballet retelling of the Sherwood Forest adventure, with live music and a relaxed performance option.
Northern Ballet bring Robin Hood to The King's Theatre on Sunday 21 March, with two performances that afternoon: one at 2pm and another at 4pm. It's a short, family-focused retelling of the Sherwood Forest adventure, with Robin and Maid Marian taking on the Sheriff of Nottingham through a mix of storytelling, ballet and live music. The whole thing is pitched as an introduction to live dance for younger audiences, so it keeps the characters recognisable and the narrative easy to follow.
Because it's a shorter piece rather than a full-length ballet, it's a bit more manageable for a family day out than a three-hour evening production. The live music runs alongside the dancing, so you're getting a full ensemble on stage rather than a recording. It's the kind of thing that works well if you're taking kids who might struggle to sit through a full-length show, and the clear story means they'll be able to follow what's happening even if they've never seen ballet before.
There's a useful difference between the two slots, too. The 4pm performance is a relaxed performance, with adjustments made for audiences who benefit from a less formal setting. If you're bringing someone who finds a standard theatre environment a bit much, that's the one to go for. Otherwise, the 2pm slot gets you in and out earlier in the day.
