A night of Roman-inspired revelry with live music, a silent disco, reenactment and dance performances, and Roman-themed activities in the National Museum of Scotland after hours.
Museum Late: When In Rome takes over the National Museum of Scotland on Friday 20 November, a night of Roman-themed revelry after the museum has closed to the general public. The evening runs from 7:30pm to 10:30pm, with the Entrance Hall and Museum Kitchen opening early at 6:30pm.
The live side of things is spread across the galleries. Edinburgh party band Harmonia provide the music and dancing, and there's a silent disco for when you want to switch gears. The Antonine Guard, a reenactment group, put on a battle performance, and Trimontium Museum brings a Roman-inspired dance. Between the acts, you can chat with museum experts, go on a Roman coin quest, try on Roman dress and temporary tattoos, and spend some time at a Roman board game café. There's also a Lego Roman fort display by Sion Carpenter.
One of the better perks of the night is that a selection of the museum's galleries stay open, and for this one night only you can see the exhibition Roman Scotland: Life on the Edge of Empire for free. If you want to go back later, they're giving out a 50% discount code for exhibition tickets on a future date. Costumes are encouraged, though they've asked you to leave the weapons at home. Entry is through the main entrance on Chambers Street.
