A Royal Lyceum Theatre production of Bertolt Brecht's anti-war play, adapted and directed by Zinnie Harris, blending music, dark humour and striking theatricality.
The Royal Lyceum Theatre brings Mother Courage and her Children to Edinburgh from Friday 28 May to Saturday 19 June 2027. It's a Royal Lyceum production of Bertolt Brecht's anti-war play, adapted and directed by Zinnie Harris. The run is supported by the European Theatre Convention (ETC) Performance & Collaboration Grant.
Brecht's play is widely regarded as one of the greatest anti-war pieces ever written, and this production blends music, dark humour and striking theatricality into a story of endurance, sacrifice and what it means to go on. It's a heavy subject, but the music and the humour are built right into the telling, so it's not just a bleak slog through the ruins of war.

Most performances are at 7:30pm, with matinees at 2:30pm on 5 and 9 June. There's a fair bit of accessibility built into the run, too: a BSL interpreted performance on 10 June, captioned shows on 12 and 16 June, and an audio described performance with a touch tour on 17 June. There's also a Patron Night on 8 June. If you're planning to go, it's worth checking those dates against your own needs before you book.
