Live show by Lungs, the post-metal and sludge band from Minneapolis, at The Hive in Edinburgh.
Lungs play The Hive on Wednesday 30 December, bringing their post-metal sound over from Minneapolis, Minnesota. It's a long way to come for a single night, and they're the only act on the bill, so the whole evening is theirs.
They describe their music as a mixture of beautiful post-rock and crushing sludge, and that's a fair place to start. The post-rock side is the melodic, atmospheric part — the slow builds and the cleaner, more open sections. The sludge is the heavier, slower, more distorted side of things. When the two sit together, you get a set that moves between the two rather than sticking to one or the other.
The band is a four-piece, and everyone on stage sings. Mike Cushing is on bass and vocals, Jeff Nicholas on drums and vocals, and Sean Tobin and Dan Lee both on guitar and vocals. Tobin also plays in Aziza, so he's got another project on the go alongside this one. Having four voices in the mix means the vocals can be layered or shared across the songs, rather than just one person leading from the front.

If you're not familiar with them, they're a post-metal band from the US, and this is their Edinburgh date. The gig is at The Hive on 30 December, so it's a mid-week show just before the New Year.
