The Christmas classic Love Actually is screened while a full orchestra plays Craig Armstrong's score live to screen.
Love Actually comes to Usher Hall on Wednesday 2 December, with the film projected on the big screen and a full orchestra performing the score live. It's the star-studded romantic comedy that's become a Christmas classic, set in London in the weeks before the big day. It weaves together several love stories — some romantic, some sad, some funny — and for many it's turned into a bit of a festive tradition.
The live-in-concert format changes how you watch it: the film runs on screen as usual, but instead of a recorded soundtrack, Craig Armstrong's evocative score is performed live by a full orchestra. It's a different way to experience a film you've probably seen plenty of times, with the music playing out in the room around you rather than coming from the speakers.
The ensemble cast is one of the film's biggest draws. Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Colin Firth, Laura Linney, Bill Nighy, Martine McCutcheon, Alan Rickman, Emma Thompson, Keira Knightley, Rowan Atkinson and Martin Freeman all have their parts in the various stories that run through the movie. It's a lot of familiar faces sharing the screen across the different threads.
