Candlelit Halloween heritage tour led by the Leith Theatre team through its historic corridors, sharing the building's past and its restoration.
Leith Theatre is opening its doors for a Halloween heritage tour on Thursday 29 October, a candlelit walk through the building led by the venue's own team. The theatre first opened in 1932 and hasn't changed much since, though it's lived many lives over the years. The tour takes you through the dimly lit corridors, with the grand Main Auditorium at the heart of the route, and the staff share tales of the building's past alongside what they're doing to bring it back to life. If you keep your eyes open, you can pick up traces of the theatre's shipbuilding past, and the whole thing is wrapped in a seasonal Halloween atmosphere with a few treats thrown in.
One thing the organisers make clear: ghosts, witches, ghouls and other spooky creatures are by no means guaranteed, but they're most welcome to attend. It's a tour run by the people who work there, so you're getting the story from the inside rather than a scripted performance. The candlelit setting does most of the heavy lifting for the mood, and the focus stays on the building itself—the corridors, the auditorium, and the layers of history that have settled in since the thirties.
