Free exhibition of drawings and canvases by children and adults inspired by the Knife Angel sculpture, with on-the-spot art-making.
The Knife Angel Artwork Exhibition opens at the Muirhouse Millennium Centre in Leith on Wednesday 4 November, running from 12pm to 5pm. It's a free exhibition put together by Lisa Petrie and Pauline Bowie, and it grew out of the month the 27ft Knife Angel sculpture spent in Leith earlier this year.
If you saw the sculpture while it was here, you'll know the scale of it. The exhibition gathers the creative responses that followed: drawings and canvases by children and adults, centred on public answers to the question 'What would you say to a young kid carrying a knife?' cut into feather-shaped wings. Alongside those are bleed control kits and photographs from the sculpture's time at the Foot of Leith Walk. It's a community record of how people engaged with the piece while it was standing in the neighbourhood.
Lisa Petrie brought the sculpture to the city as part of her life's work honouring her late son, and the piece has drawn support from the Police, third-sector projects and local communities. Pauline Bowie explains the reason for the exhibition simply: she didn't want the public's engagement to go to waste and wanted something to preserve it. The display keeps those responses together rather than letting them scatter after the sculpture moved on.

It's not just for looking, either. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own Knife Angel drawings or create new artwork on the spot, so you can add your own voice to the collection. The exhibition is free to enter, and it runs from 12pm to 5pm at the Muirhouse Millennium Centre on 4 November.
